Judy Busiega, the long-serving private secretary to the late President Daniel arap Moi, was laid to rest over the weekend at her home in Cheburuss, Cherang’any East, Trans Nzoia County.
A reserved yet influential figure during her tenure at State House, Busiega was lauded for her unwavering integrity, discipline, and compassion by leaders who served in the Moi administration.
Described as a “mother of generations” and a “strict iron lady,” Judy left an indelible mark on all who worked with and knew her.
Her younger brother, Mr. Joseph N. Busiega, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, delivered a heartfelt tribute during the ceremony, emphasizing her impact not only within the family but also on the national stage.
“She was more than an aunt – she was a mother, a guide, and a pillar of support,” he said.
“She shaped many lives through her selflessness and steadfast prayers. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on.”
He also used the occasion to condemn the spread of misinformation, particularly taking issue with recent political falsehoods regarding President William Ruto’s attendance at Pope Francis’ funeral.
In an emotional tribute, Judy’s sister, Violet Muteshi, remembered her as a best friend and confidant.
“We were inseparable,” she said.
“She was my safe place in a sometimes-harsh world. Though my heart is heavy, I am grateful for the time we had.” Judy’s daughter, Mishi Maloba, called her mother a “remarkable woman” whose strength and kindness influenced generations.
Her son, Charles Maloba, reflected on a lifetime shaped by her love and sacrifice.
“Though we say goodbye, I take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with Dad,” he said.
The burial was attended by prominent figures including Fred Gumo, retired army officers led by General Joseph Kibwana, Lazarus Sumbeiyo, and Wilson Boinnet.
Former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha was urged by church leaders to step into the community role Judy once held.
The Busiega family has described her death as a profound loss, not only to them but to the Nation.
